Indian Market Weekend - Santa Fe

Santa Fe was buzzing this last weekend - Indian Market Weekend. Bryan and I joined Mark, Gordon & Jay at 5AM for breakfast at the Plaza Cafe, which is where I shot the neon clock as we were dining. Thereafter we toured the booths, it was still dark - and we joked we should have brought a flashlight and minutes later we saw that infact many early birds do bring theirs. Our eyes were dazzled by some of the finest Native American works in the Nation. Running into old friends (Yolanda, Andrea, Janie) and enjoying the food booths filled our day with smiles.

The Pine Owl pictured was a rescue, we came upon him after buying a couple of Lowden and Ortiz clay Owls for our collection. I thought it apropo and wanted to show this beautiful bird. He is used in educating the public about our native species.

It's that time of year again! Indian Market 2008! This year's Event will be held on August, 21st, Thursday from 4 - 8 pm. We'll be exhibiting new work by Malcolm Furlow and Alvin Gill-Tapia, Angus MacDonald and Comanche artist and flute player Tim Nevaquaya. We will also be hosting a very special book signing by best selling novelist J. Royal Horton who is premiering his Trilogy featuring cover artwork by Malcolm. This is a fun - ART, jam packed weekend starting Wednesday with the R.C. Gorman Estate Auction and the Annual Russian Nights Art Auction! November 6, 2008 - Scottsdale Fashion Week begins with a unique art walk here in the Joan Cawley Gallery. Patrick Coffaro, Frank Ybarra, David Manje, Robert Rivera, Molly Heizer, ALVIN GILL-TAPIA and many of the gallery artists have created one of a kind hand painted and decorated jean jackets, which will be worn by lovely models who will be walking through the gallery and on Main Street wearing these unique creations. Aside from our gallery, participating designers from all over the world will congregate along the waterfront and down Main Street to exhibit there fashion creations for 2009.
